๐ŸŸข Navigational Coherence

Navigational Coherence is not a theory, a product, a method, or an institution. It is the problem-space this entire programme exists to address: how understanding remains sufficiently coherent to support orientation, judgment, learning, revision, and action โ€” as circumstances, evidence, interpretations, systems, and available capabilities all continue to change.

Two words, one claim

The name is built from two claims that only work together.

Held apart, coherence risks sounding like agreement for its own sake โ€” a fire everyone quietly agrees to sit around. Navigation without coherence is just motion, with nothing it's actually holding steady toward. Together, they describe a hand that stays on the rudder because the fire it's steering by keeps moving too.

Not the same as Audited State

Audited State is the formal research interface into this problem-space โ€” the papers, the architecture, the terminology discipline. It is not the problem-space itself, and no single paper, product, or institution built on top of it should be mistaken for the whole of what Navigational Coherence names.

Its mirror

Interpretive Entropy is the direct counterpart on the failure side โ€” the general name for what happens whenever this sustained relation isn't actively maintained. PIFR, Promotion Gate, and Requisite Variety are specific mechanisms serving Navigational Coherence; Ephemeral Processing, Fragmentation, and Semantic Drift are specific mechanisms and measures of Interpretive Entropy. Neither umbrella term is one failure or one fix among several โ€” each is what the specific ones sit underneath.

Where the name comes from

Two pieces in the Philosophy gallery carry each half of the claim in felt, rather than formal, terms:
