About
Audited State exists to preserve human agency by preserving continuity of understanding under acceleration.
Audited State has widened as the underlying question has widened. What began as a practical problem of preserving reasoning continuity in human–AI collaboration repeatedly appeared in other forms: as reconstruction cost in organizations, lost context in governance, discontinuity in learning, drift across systems, and the difficulty of preserving understanding as people, technologies, and institutions change. The work now spans public synthesis, research, continuity infrastructure, prototypes, and empirical investigation — not because these fields are being collapsed into one theory, but because the same suspected continuity problem keeps appearing between them.

The Programme
The work is deliberately distributed across several forms. The book The Wealth of Understanding develops the general-reader synthesis. The research programme separates the larger concern into narrower, contestable propositions. Infrastructure work explores how continuity might be supported in practice. Prototypes place those ideas into real use, and empirical studies ask what survives outside the theory. Each part is intended to inform, challenge, and revise the others.

Continuity Infrastructure
PKOS is one experimental infrastructure within the wider programme. It explores how reasoning, intent, assumptions, decisions, and responsibility might remain traceable across long-running human–AI and organizational work.
Stewardship
Who should hold, govern, and license infrastructure that carries reasoning is a question of ownership as much as design. A position paper states the intention: a non-profit steward holding the rights, the standard, and the export format, with an external ethics board and licensees bound by published conditions. It states an intention only; the steward it describes does not yet exist.

Why "Audited State"?
The name refers not to control, but to the legibility of reasoning processes: whether later participants can reconstruct what was understood, why a decision made sense at the time, what remained uncertain, and where responsibility sits.

Before there was a project, there was a feeling without a name for it. From there, the question widened into a small reasoning artifact, a practical collaboration problem, and then into research, infrastructure, prototypes, and public inquiry.
