Feedforward

Feedforward is a cybernetic control mechanism that anticipates disturbances and adjusts system behavior in advance.

Unlike feedback systems, which correct deviations after they occur, feedforward systems attempt to guide behavior before disturbances affect the system.

Feedback vs Feedforward

Feedback → correction after deviation
Feedforward → anticipatory guidance

Many real-world systems combine both mechanisms.

Feedforward in PKOS

In PKOS, the PIFR functions as a feedforward artifact. Rather than recording reasoning after the fact, it carries intent, assumptions, constraints and continuation criteria forward through time.

This allows reasoning systems to extend prior work without repeatedly reconstructing the reasoning context.

Part of the PKOS Lexicon.
